Washington D.C.—Today, Senator Laphonza Butler (D-Calif.) released the following statement in support of President Biden’s domestic supplemental funding request, which includes $16 billion for the Child Care Stabilization Grant Program:
“Today, I join my colleagues in urging the Senate to take action on President Biden’s domestic supplemental funding request, and provide critical funding to address the growing child care crisis. The President’s $16 billion request for the Child Care Stabilization Grant Program would support more than 50 thousand child care providers across the state of California. These child care providers are small businesses who provide jobs and contribute to our local economies.
“We must heed the call of concerned parents, just as we did during the pandemic, to once again deliver historic investments to keep child care facilities open across the country. These federal dollars would continue to foster strong economic recovery and growth, allow parents to return to work, and directly invest in our next generation.
“Congress must act quickly to prevent millions of families, including more than 700 thousand children in California, from losing child care.”
