Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Laphonza Butler (D-Calif.) announced more than $264 million in congressionally-directed spending (CDS) projects for fiscal year 2024. The funding secured in the first and second appropriations bills deliver targeted investments for projects and priorities in local communities across California.
“I am proud of the work we were able to do this appropriations season to continue Senator Feinstein’s legacy and to chart a fresh path to secure millions of dollars for California,” said Senator Laphonza Butler. “These $264 million will go to projects across our state that will better people’s lives.”
Notable wins secured for California include:
- More than $65 million for water projects across the state to continue improving California’s water resiliency, including funding for water storage and recycling, clean water for residents, and flood protection
- More than $21 million to address California’s homelessness and housing crisis, including funding to build affordable housing, temporary housing units, and homeless shelters
- $18.5 million for wildfire risk reduction, preparedness, and response projects to ensure California reduces the risk of severe wildfires and is prepared to respond to catastrophic wildfires when they arise
- $17.5 million for emergency response, including new ambulances to serve rural communities, body cameras to ensure officer accountability and safety, and emergency communication systems
- $11.8 million for child development centers at naval bases in southern California
- $10.4 million to improve Californian’s access to quality and affordable healthcare for low-income communities, rural residents, and seniors, including preventative and mental health services
- $6 million to continue mapping and clean-up of toxic chemicals dumped off California’s coast
- $3.4 million to tackle the worsening opioid epidemic by providing opioid prevention, education, and intervention services
