Washington D.C. — Today, Senator Laphonza Butler (D-Calif.) released the following statement on the appointment of new hires in her Capitol Hill office:

It’s important to bring more people of color, women, LGBTQ+ persons, and others from diverse backgrounds into the room where decisions are being made. We’re building a staff that accurately represents America, and I have full confidence that this team is ready to make every day count for Californians.”
Leading Senator Butler’s Judicial Counsel is Jessica Jensen as Chief Counsel, along with Eliazar Chacha, Taylor Gibson, and Caleb Jackson. Steering Senator Butler’s policy agenda is Ian Bryan as Legislative Director, who is joined by Lauren Battle for health and human services, Carissa Bunge for environment and public lands, Matthew Ceja for energy, transportation, climate change, and air quality, Aditi Gupta for innovation and tech, Daniel Leonardini for appropriations, budget, and federal employees, Rob Levinson for foreign, defense, and veterans policy, and Nita Somasundaram for banking, tax, business, international trade, and social security.
