Thank you for your interest in applying to a U.S. Service Academy. As your California Senator, I have the honor of nominating constituents for admission to the Air Force Academy, the Merchant Marine Academy, the Naval Academy, and the Military Academy at West Point. Please note the U.S. Coast Guard does not require a congressional nomination for admission. Because nominations are competitive, I encourage you to also seek nomination from United States Senator Alex Padilla, the House Representative for your district, and Vice President of the United States.
Applications will be reviewed by Senator Butler’s Academy Advisory Board. Interviews will be held virtually in early October.
ACADEMY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Citizenship/Residence: Be a United States citizen and legal resident of California
- Age: Be at least 17 years old, but not have passed your 23rd birthday by July 1 of the year of admission
- Education: Have a high school education or the equivalent
- Marital Status: Must be unmarried, not pregnant, and without legal obligation to support children or other dependents
- Skill / Fitness: Must meet the medical, physical, and academic requirements of the Academy
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Online questionnaire
- A 500-word essay on why you want to attend a Service Academy
- Two letters of recommendation from a counselor/principal and a coach/teacher
- High School/College transcripts
- ACT/SAT scores
